I have to give Mike Chen credit, the guy is very creative. Mike, if you've not heard of him, is the creator of the Make Your Own Software product. He's came up with a really innovative way to sell this product via his new InstantBuzz website. Here's the deal, you get his new InstantBuzz toolbar and when you first logon, you're provided with a one-time, never to be repeated offer. He's actually put together a very, irresistable offer, but to get it, you have to buy his Make Your Own Software product.
But here's what I really think is the creative part of this offer...
EDITOR'S NOTE: While it was interesting concept back when they first launched, I really cannot recommend that anyone use or install this program. Thomas's note below gives some good tips on how to get rid of it if you've installed it.
It is the InstantBuzz toolbar itself! What Mike has done is incorporated the old start page type of program into a toolbar. The way these work is your advertising is displayed based upon a ratio of how many ads you've viewed yourself and upon how many folks you've got to install the toolbar. A proven viral marketing concept. Richard Privorotsky came out with a little toolbar maker several months ago and he'd talked about building such a product, but I've not seen it come out. Mike apparently beat him to the punch.
It'll be interesting to see how this program works. It doesn't officially launch until November 3rd, so you won't be seeing any email based signup links. If you want to see how this program works, send me a QMTP and let me know what email address you'd like an invitation sent to.... sorry email is still required for some things.
This little toolbar only works in IE, but so far seems to be relatively unobtrusive and safe. Even though I'm not a fan of IE, I still have to use it occassionally and who knows, I might see an ad for something I really want to see or learn about. Maybe Quikonnex?

my security software said I had a virus in the ib toolbar. So I got rid of it. Then months later i tried it again. It worked for a while then i think my security software did something to it because it stopped working. Too bad, cuz I have a terrific product I really want to promote. I also tried another tool bar similar to instant buzz. I think it is just called the free toolbar?
I even signed up as premium member, but i never did get it to work. but they did give me my money back.
The Instant Buzz is one of the worse spyware toolbar to get rid of. I had ran Ad-Aware, Hijack-This & others but the only thing that would remove it was "SpySweeper" by WebRoot. It will take several hours to run and you can download it FREE but it will remove it and all other DataMiner & SpyWare items.

Hey Tony.
Go to : c:\programs\
you should find it there, maybe a little
search but you find it :-)
A Merry Christmas to you and your family. :-)
And everybody else here :-)
How do you remove the IB toolbar? I have deleted the programme in add/remove programmes but it still keeps coming up
I meant to say Quikonnex is the leader in this when it comes to new marketing techniques and including Mac users as much as possible.
I agree Jim. It's like trying to remove email from a server. :-)
You know you hit the nail right on the head with the comment of no Mac attack.
:-)
That is the beauty of Quikonnex is that it
is compatible with Mac. You don't see a lot of programs online or software designed for the Mac user.
Seems to me that a lot of folks who are creating these programs without the support for Mac are losing a fairly good sized portion of that market to promote to.
Quikonnex is the leader in this when it comes to new marketing techniques.
The pledge... Hmm good question Jim.
One way to answer the question would be to test it with Q and see how many would pledge to tell at least one person a day about Quikonnex. :-)
Myself, I don't need to sign that pledge as I try to tell more than one person a day about Quikonnex.
However it would be an interesting test.
One idea may be to include a Quikonnex pledge at the end of the registration process for Quikonnex.
What do you think?
I agree with you Joe about anything being dependent on IE. It definitely has it's limitations. I wish it were 100% possible to stay out of IE, but if you're doing development or trying to develop tools on a Windows based platform (please no Mac attacks here ;-)), there's not a lot of options.
What I think folks could learn from going through this process is some very interesting marketing techniques. It's not the technology, is the sales process that makes this interesting. For example, when I logged on yesterday, I was prompted to sign a pledge to promote the product to as least one person a day. When the IE browser is launched, it'll provide a daily motivational message in response and a tickler to do the daily promotion. Will anyone really do it?
Jim,
The only problem I see with any toolbar today is the trust factor.
You have to first trust Microsoft to fix IE so it can't be hijacked. The you have to trust the toolbar content as well as the worry that the toolbar can actually be a trojan horse.
I had bought Armonds toobar generator and while I agree it is a fantastic viral marketing tool, I have stopped offering them from Frogsearch because of the problems with IE.
The toolbars don't seem to work with FF which is MS's recommended replacement for IE.
Toobar marketing seems to be old hat today based on those issues although Mikes creative spin is an excellent example of how toolbar marketing can be used.
Just my 2 cents worth.
:-)
