Adding Q Channels  |  Adding Other Channels or feeds

QuikView and Channels, News Feeds, RSS/XML ...

QuikView is a full channel/news feed viewer, meaning any "well-formed rss or xml feed" can be read and displayed in a readable, clickable format. Geeky enough? Well, if you've ever clicked on an RSS/XML orange box (see below), you've seen the raw code appear in your browser window. It's not pretty, it's raw code and can be very confusing.

With QuikView, you just click on the folder you want to put that feed into, copy the url for the link, check the box 'QChannel/RSS' ... and that's it. Now you can see what that code creates and that feed will update anytime you click the link through QuikView. But let's get into adding OUR channels first.

ADDING QUIKONNEX CHANNELS
Adding a Quikonnex channel to QuikView is a "click-of-a-Q" away . In the upper right corner of all Q channels you'll see these auto-subscribe links. Next to our Q you'll see the Awasu house, the Amphetadesk pill, the RadioUserland cup and the standard icon representing a link to a pure xml or rss feed. All the viewer icons shown will read media-rich channels, but let's start with the Quikonnex Q, of course. See more info on the other links below.

The Quikonnex "Q" Just click the Q and if you have logged in to QuikView, you will see the Add Link popup (shown below in Firefox). If you are not logged in, the login panel will launch first. Just complete the login and you can proceed with adding the channel.

At the top of the Add Link box you will see the folder drop box, which when opened will list every folder in your QuikView tree. Choose the folder into which you want to place this new channel. Please Note: You can place your Q channels in any category or folder, and regardless of where they are placed in QuikView, will still show in your Channel Summary.

The remaining fields on the Add Link Panel are:

Link Name - This will be prefilled, you can change it.

URL - This will also be prefilled, but do not change it, or your subscription will not be successful.

Favicon - If you wish to use a custom favicon for this channel, enter the url to that image here. For more information on the use of favicons, please see the Set Preferences or Adding Links Help pages. Just click either of those categories in the Help Tree.

Description - Enter a description for this channel here. As with both categories and folders, descriptions are used for internal search purposes, so short phrases and keywords are recommenced for efficient searching.

You will also see that the box is checked for QChannel/RSS. Do not uncheck this box, as the link will not function properly as a channel without it.

Once you click Submit, you have added the new link to your personal database in QuikView, so be sure to click the refresh icon to update your viewer.

THE OTHER VIEWER ICONS

Awasu's House  With Awasu installed and running, clicking on that icon will launch the Install Wizard for Awasu. With both Awasu and QuikView installed, you get the best of both "feed worlds". If you want to be alerted on your desktop directly when you receive new information, the Awasu alert system gives you countless ways to by notified: audio, popup balloons, a full-right click menu off the system tray and much more. It does require a small download, so you must have full administrative rights to your computer. Awasu must be downloaded, properly installed and running to add channels.

For information on downloading our customized version of Awasu, click here. Please Note: At this time Awasu is only available for the Windows operating system.

Amphetadesk (the pill) and RadioUserland (the coffee cup) are also media-capable viewers. Still rather geeky, but widely used by the general "newsfeeding" public.

And finally the "orange box", as it's referred to in general "code-land". You'll see this box in different formats, usually either xml or rss, signifying the code type used to build the feed or channel. Clicking on this icon will always bring up the original code and you must copy the url from your browser address bar into whatever system your viewer provides. We've included this in our subscribe links for the purist readers/viewers, however .... and that's a big HOWEVER, Quikonnex channels are media-rich, can carry html, javascript, object tags (for media), etc. and purist readers that accept text only will "strip the tags", rendering text only and converting tags to viewable copy.

ADDING OTHER CHANNELS, NEWS FEEDS, RSS OR XML TO QUIKVIEW

Required:
As mentioned above, to add any "well-formed" xml or rss feed to QuikView, just right click the folder of your choice in the sidebar, click "Add Link" or use the bookmarklet and complete the info, always remembering to click the box for QChannel/RSS.

All non-Quikonnex channels are viewable in Channel Summary under the tab Other RSS/XML Feeds.
