Adding Links

All methods of adding links to QuikView will open the Add Link panel either within your QuikView sidebar or in a small popup window.

Parent Folder  If you have accessed the Add Link panel by right-clicking on a folder, the name of that folder will appear grayed out in the top box. If you want to change the folder, you will need to close this window, right-click on the correct folder and complete the form.

Link Name  The name or title of the website you are adding will appear in this window, if you are accessing from the Bookmarklet or through right-clicking on the page (IE only). Regardless you have the ability to name the link whatever you would like. It is recommended to keep the Link Name short to enable it to be visible in the QuikView sidebar.

URL  If adding a link from the Bookmarklet or right-click menu the URL will be pre-filled in. You may add any type of URL in this area, however, you should not change a prefilled URL or your link will not be added correctly.

Please Note: Only if you are adding a channel or a feed, be sure to check the QChannel/RSS box for the file to be read correctly. If you are adding a regular bookmark link, do NOT check this box.

Favicon  Favicons are special graphic files ending with a .ico extension. If you have checked to "Use Favicons" in your Preferences, then you can enter the URL of a favicon.ico file that you would like to use with links you have added to QuikView. Typically, if a website has a favicon, it is placed at the top level of the site, so you should be able to enter the main URL for the website, add a slash and "favicon.ico" to the end of it. For example, if you enter the URL to our Quikonnex favicon file, http://quikonnex.com/favicon.ico, you will see a Quikonnex Q displayed next to the link.   To learn more about Favicons please go to Favicon.com or HTMLBasix.com

Description  The description you enter here will only be used in the search functions through the toolbar, so keywords and/or short phrases are best.

QChannel/RSS  If the link you are adding to QuikView is a regular bookmark link, do not check this box. If it is a channel or an XML or RSS feed of any version or type, be sure to check this box. All Q Channels will also appear on your Channel Summary, but only if this box has been checked.

ADDING LINKS WITH THE BOOKMARKLET

The most convenient way to add website links to QuikView is to use the QuikView bookmarklet to launch the Add Link popup.

If you have not yet installed the bookmarklet on your browser, we strongly recommend that you go back to the installation instructions for your particular browser and add this to your toolbar. You'll be so glad you did! Just click the Install QuikView tab at the top of this page and click on the icon appropriate to your browser.

Once you have your Add to QuikView bookmarklet, you are ready to add links on the fly. When you are on a page to which you wish to add a link, just click the Add to QuikView bookmarklet for a prefilled Add Link popup window. Be sure to choose your folder from the drop menu, complete the form and click Submit. Refresh QuikView and that's it!

ADDING LINKS THROUGH IE'S RIGHT CLICK MENU

Internet Explorer users can also use the Right-Click Menu to launch the Add Link popup. However, this feature is only available if the "Full Install with Administrative Rights" option was used to install QuikView and update your Windows registry.

ADDING LINKS DIRECTLY TO A FOLDER OR CATEGORY

Right click on the folder in which you would like to put the link, choose Add Link from the Context Menu, complete the form and click Submit. When you refresh QuikView, you will see your new link.

Please Note: You can also use the same process to add links to categories, as well as folders.

LINK CONTEXT MENU

Email Link   This link will open a panel in your QuikView sidebar with a link to launch your default email program. If you click that link, it will launch your email program with a small pre-written email including an active link to the url you are sending. The pre-written message is just a suggestion for the copy, you can edit or re-write it as you wish. Please feel free to write whatever you would like in your email message. While we don't necessarily like using email, unless we absolutely have to, sometimes this is the only way you can share information with some folks.

Copy Link   To copy a link from one category or folder to another, right-click the link, then choose Copy from the context menu to use your computer's internal clipboard. Next, right-click the folder into which you would like to paste the link and click Paste on the Folder Context Menu. Please Note: You cannot copy a link into the same folder where the original link is currently located.

Paste Link   Use the Paste command on the Folder Context Menu to copy or move the link to another folder. Please Note: You cannot copy a link into the same folder where that link is currently located.

Delete Link   This action deletes the channel or link selected from the category or folder. A deleted link can be undeleted by choosing the Undelete action on the Folder Context Menu for the parent folder.
Please Note: The Undelete action is only available as long as the category or folder has not been purged. Once a category/folder is purged, all information is lost, it's deleted contents are completely removed from the database and cannot be recovered.

Properties   The Properties panel allows you to change all information presently being used for that channel or link. All properties, including the URL, can be changed. However, unless the channel or web page you have bookmarked has been relocated, it is not a good idea to change the URL. Please Note: Both the name and description entered on the Properties panel for any channel or link is used by the internal QuikView search. Keywords and short phrases are recommended for the description in order to provide the most relevant search results.
