Your Bookmarks

QuikView is a personal bookmark server, as well as a channel viewer. You can add as many bookmarks as you like and organize them in any way you please. Any bookmarks you add to your QuikView account will be available to you from any computer on any browser, any time you log in.

Categories
To the left is a screen shot of a portion of the QuikView panel showing two collapsed categories. This user has chosen to place all their bookmarks in one category, and all of their Q Channel/RSS subscriptions into another category. Categories are the top level of organization in your QuikView tree and are designated by the icon.

One base or root category is automatically created for you when you sign up for your QuikView account. By default it is named based on the Real Name you entered on your sign up form, and is called Real Name's Bookmarks. You can change the name of this category at any time and you can add as many more categories as you want. For complete information on adding more categories, please click the Creating Categories & Folders link in the Help Tree.

Folders
Folders can be added to any category or nested within other folders to help you organize your bookmark collection. To add a new folder, just right-click on the category in which you want to place the new folder and choose Add Folder from the context menu. For complete information on adding more folders, please click the Creating Categories & Folders link in the Help Tree. You can also drag & drop folders between categories or other folders. Folders are designated by the icon.

Bookmarks (Links) & Favicons

Bookmarks, or links, can be added to either categories or folders using several methods. When adding bookmarks, please be sure you do NOT check the QChannel/RSS box on the Add Link panel. That option is to be used ONLY for channel subscriptions. You can mix bookmarks and channels in any categories or folders. However, if you are planning to import or export bookmarks, it is recommended that you keep them separate. For complete information on adding links, please click the Adding Links link in the Help Tree.

The topmost bookmark in the screen shot to the left is displayed with the default bookmark icon. However, the bookmarks for others, including the bookmark for eBay, are displayed using the "favicons" provided by the website to which they link.

Favicons are special graphic files ending with a .ico extension which are provided by some websites. If you have checked the "Use Favicons" box in your Preferences, you have enabled the use of favicons in your QuikView display. You can then enter the URL of a favicon.ico file that you would like to use with a bookmark in the appropriate field on the Properties panel for that bookmark.

Typically, if a website has a favicon, it is placed at the top level of the site, so you should be able to enter the main URL for the website, add a slash and "favicon.ico" to the end of it. For example, if you enter the URL to our Quikonnex favicon file, http://quikonnex.com/favicon.ico, you will see a Quikonnex Q displayed next to the link.   To learn more about Favicons please go to Favicon.com or HTMLBasix.com
