Using the Context Menus & Folders

Displaying the Context Menus

There are two Context Menus which are available in QuikView. You will see either the Folder Context Menu or the Link Context Menu, based on whether you right-click a category/folder or a channel/link.

For Windows and Unix Users: Highlight then right click on the category, folder, channel or link upon which you wish to perform an action, and the appropriate Context Menu will appear.

For Mac Users: Display the Context Menu using the Show Menu Icon. You enable this special icon by checking the Show Menu Icon option in your Preferences. You can then click on the menu icon, which will appear before the item name, as shown on the screen shot to the left.

Please Note: This option is not recommended for Windows users.

Whichever method you use, the appropriate Context Menu will then be displayed, and will be similar to the screen shot to the right. Different actions will be available from the Context Menu based on the context in which you called it. Available actions in any given context will appear in white text and unavailable actions will appear in black text.

CONTEXT MENU ACTIONS

Folder Context Menu

Add Link   Adds a link to the category or folder which has been highlighted and right-clicked. Select this action to launch an Add Link form on which the "Parent Folder" field is pre-filled. Enter the remaining information and click the Submit button to add this new link to your QuikView account. Be sure to check the QChannel/RSS box if the link you are adding is a QChannel or an RSS feed.

Please Note: When Add Link is executed from the bookmarklet it allows the user to select a target folder.

Add Folder   Launches the Create Folder panel, from which a new folder can be created inside the highlighted folder. The "Parent Folder" field will be pre-filled, based on the category or folder which was highlighted when this action was selected from the Context Menu. Complete the remaining fields and click the Submit button to add the new folder.

Please Note: If the folder was not created in the correct place, you can simply drag and drop it to the desired location.

Folder Properties   Selecting this action will launch the Properties panel for the category or folder which you have highlighted. There you can change the name and description of any category or folder that you have created. You can also use this action to change the properties for the default or base/root category which was created automatically when you signed up for QuikView. Just enter the new information and click the Submit button.

Delete Folder   This action will delete the category or folder on which you have right-clicked. Deleted categories and folders can be undeleted by selecting the Undelete action from the Context Menu. The deletion process is only complete after the Purge Folder command is applied to that folder. You can delete any of your categories or folders, however it is recommended that you do not delete your base/root category.

Purge Folder   Select this action to purge previously deleted folders or links inside the selected category or folder. This action is necessary to completely remove any categories, folders or links which have been deleted. Please Note: It is not possible to undelete anything which has been purged! Purged items are completely removed from the database and cannot be recovered.

Undelete Folder   This action will recover previously deleted folders or links, unless they have been purged. A category or folder which has been deleted, but not purged, is still visible in QuikView, but it is shown grayed out. To recover it, just right click and choose Undelete Folder from the Context Menu.

Copy   Use this action to copy categories or folders and their contents to your computer's internal clipboard. You can then use the Paste action to place them where you want them. Please Note: It is not possible to place a copy of a folder in the same category or folder as the original folder.

Paste   This action is only available when the Copy action has been executed and something is on your computer's internal clipboard, ready to be pasted to a new location. Just right click the category or folder into which you wish to place the contents of the clipboard and select Paste from the Context Menu.

Import Bookmarks   With this action you can import bookmarks from an external file on your computer to the target folder in QuikView. No link validations are performed at this step in order to avoid timeout on the server side.

Export Bookmarks   Use this action to export the contents of any QuikView folder to an external bookmark file. Both the Netscape bookmark file format and Opera Hotlist are supported. Mozilla uses the Netscape bookmark file format and Internet Explorer can export and import to and from this format.
